Miami Dolphins’ Superstars – Steven Ross, J Lo, Gloria Estefan, Venus and Serena, Fergie…and Ricky Ross

24 08 2011

Steven Ross paid approx 1.1 billion to buy a 95% stake in the NFL’s Miami Dolphins in 2009.  The Dolphins had their highs in the seventies, when they were coached by Don Shula, had an undefeated season (1972), and won 2 Superbowls, including their last one – Superbowl VII in 1973.   Ross, a New York real estate mogul, says that most owners get into professional team ownership because of the passion and their desire to get on the ballfield, not necessarily for the bottom line.  But, it is still a business.  Ross has been instrumental in bringing attention to the NFL in South Florida, particularly by negotiating minority ownership deals with an impressive list of successful and powerful women in the music, sports, and entertainment world.

Miami Dolphins part owners include tennis superstar sisters Venus and Serena Williams, Latin singer Gloria Estefan and husband Emilio, Jennifer Lopez, Mark Anthony, and singer Jimmy Buffett.  Most recently, Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie was also brought onboard.

Hit the jump to read a letter from Steven Ross to the Miami fans, and see another Ross, Miami-based rapper Rick Ross, go behind the scenes at a recent Dolphins preseason game…

Converse = Band of Ballers, Roth Boys, and Rosa

2 02 2010

In the past few years Converse has crossed over a bit.

In 2008 they put together a decent song with Pharell, Santogold, and Julian Casablancas (Strokes lead man).

Then in 2009, Converse hosted the first annual Band of Ballers event in New York City.

For the day, they brought in NY’s Top Hip Hop radio station HOT 97, and their personalities like Miss Info and Cipha Sounds. The hottest hunnies were in town…i.e. Rosa Acosta

Teams were led by hip hop stars like Jim Jones, Diplo, Pac Div, and Asher Roth.

Converse has used these platforms, like music, video, and events to successfully promote their products to a broader audience. For the Band of Baller tournament, they introduced their new sneaker, Weapon Evo. The Evo, an updated version of the 1986-’87 Converse Weapon, introduces Cons’ Balls Technology. “Balls” are polyurethane bladders embedded in the shoe’s heel that compress and rebound during play.

With $10,000 cash sitting on top of the backboards, teams competed in half court 3-on-3 games. Jim Jones’ team, Jones Family, defeated Pac Div for the championship

milano

Any questions??

Alyssa Milano is a successful actress, sex symbol, fashionista, and young entrepreneur.  She’s famous for her role on “Who’s the Boss” and “Charmed”, and has stayed busy as a businesswoman, with her celebrity networking company,  and her popular website .

Here we will look carefully at Milano….and at the many ways she has managed to stay relevant and broaden her brand and audience by creatively using the long arm of sport.

Of course, maybe most famously, Milano is known to have a thing for pitchers…

In March 2009, Alyssa released her book, “Safe at Home: Confessions of a Baseball Fanatic.” Dodgers’ manager Joe Torre wrote the book’s Foreword. (The book is basically is a retrospective focusing on how the game has influenced her life. She’s warned that it’s anything but a tell-all about her relationships with star players such as Brad Penny and Carl Pavano.)

Alyssa Milano is blurring the lines between sports and hollywood, opening the baseball market to more women by introducing lines of fashion and jewelery, and overall broadening the audience and interest in sports by being so damn sexy!   Awesome!  We neeed it!
